United don't need Ronaldo-Carragher

MANCHESTER: Jamie Carragher believes Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer needed at Manchester United and reiterated that he does not understand how the club will remember him last summer.

Ronaldo wants to leave Old Trafford as United are out of the Champions League this season, just a year after his return from Juventus. The Portuguese star continued to cause controversy last week when he left the team following United's 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano in a friendly.

United's new manager Erik ten Hag considers Ronaldo's behavior unacceptable. Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are among Europe's elite clubs linked with Ronaldo this summer, but none have bid for him. Carragher believes United are now facing the prospect of offloading Ronaldo this summer after other clubs failed to show interest.

"For me, the signing of Ronaldo is a strange step. I feel that this situation will happen even though Ronaldo has contributed a lot for you (Manchester United). "He's signed a two-year deal with an extra year, which I find hard to believe, and he won't be anyone's second choice. "But as a player, there comes a time in your career when you are no longer the same player. His career lasted a long time because he was a professional. "Now, aged 37, 38 this season, he is not the same player.

He is still a poisonous explosive, but not the same player. No club in Europe wants his services now, I could be wrong." “But it seems he cannot be sold to United. Maybe if you ask The Hag, I don't like him. "I'm not sure the Manchester United dressing room would want Cristiano Ronaldo with them now," Carragher said. - AGENCIES
