Keith Olbermann Apologizes for Penn State Tweets, Will Be Off Air Rest of the Week

Keith Olbermann Penn StateKeith Olbermann will be off the air for the rest of the week following a series of tweets in which he argued with Penn State supporters, ESPN has announced:

We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State. It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday. The annual tradition of THON and the efforts of the students of Penn State to fight pediatric cancer should be applauded.

Olbermann apologized for the exchange on his Twitter account:

As documented by Onward State, Olbermann’s back-and-forth with Penn State students initially began when one sent him a link to fundraising results of THON, a beloved annual event that raises money for pediatric cancer (in the past Olbermann has been critical of Penn State’s continued Joe Paterno hagiography):

More Penn State students and/or supporters jumped into the fray:

It’s good that Olbermann apologized, but this was a fight he really just shouldn’t have been having in the first place.
