Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has slammed his side's performance following their 2-1 loss to Brighton in the Premier League opener.

Pascal Gross' brace ensured new manager Erik ten Hag got off to a grim start at Old Trafford. “We are going into the game positive because we had an encouraging pre-season.

“It was the worst start when we lost 2-0 at Old Trafford before the break. “We came back to score but we struggled a bit and it was a bad start for us.

"The opponent's first goal affected our tempo. It shouldn't have stopped us. Then we were 2-0 up before the break, it was a nightmare. "We weren't in sync and it didn't look like we were going in the same direction in the first half.

It takes time to settle into the centre-back pair and we have to be better to avoid conceding." "Everyone knows their job, we had a bad season last season. "Now there is a new manager who is trying to apply his philosophy to the game, but if we don't follow it, the space is open," Maguire said.
