London: Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a two-year contract extension, the English Premier League (EPL) club announced today, ending speculation over his move to Spain's Barcelona.
"I am very happy to stay at Chelsea, my home," said the 32-year-old, who joined the Blues in 2012 from French club Marseille.
"It's been almost 10 years since I came here, so I'm already in love and happy with our new project." Azpilicueta has been linked with a move to Barcelona, who have secured former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen. Antonio Rudiger also left Chelsea to join Real Madrid for free.
Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly said he was delighted the club could continue with Azpilicueta, who has won two EPL titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, two Europa League trophies, the Champions League and the Club World Cup. .
