A Texas State Trooper was ordered to undergo counseling for posing for a picture with Snoop Dogg, the prominent father of a college football recruit, a few weeks ago at the South by Southwest festival.
There is so much about this story that inspires laughter. I mean, this is possibly the dumbest thing ever resulting from an Instagram photo, and that’s a high bar. Sergeant Billy Spears’ attorney released the order that was, get this, hand-delivered after an 80-mile drive because the picture caused such commotion. Here’s what it said:
“While working a secondary employment job, Trooper Spears took a photo with a public figure who has a well-known criminal background including numerous drug charges,” says the order, which Spears’ lawyer, Ty Clevenger, made available Wednesday. “The public figure posted the photo on social media and it reflects poorly on the agency.”
And just look at that trooper. Clearly, a Snoop Dogg fan. He responded, in pleading ignorance of Snoop’s history, “believe it or not, some folks don’t watch TMZ or read People Magazine.” He also questioned whether pictures of Willie Nelson would prompt such action.
Ordering counseling for a photo probably qualifies as “reflecting poorly on the agency.”
