Alex Cobb, a pitcher entering his 5th season with the Tampa Bay Rays, just had his best moment with the team: He saved a stray dog that was running in traffic Monday night. From the Tampa Bay Times:
Cobb was heading home on busy Harborview Drive after Monday’s workout when he noticed the dog, pulled his truck over and — in his flip-flops — engaged in what became a 20-minute pursuit to chase him down.
“I was driving on one side and he was running on the other side of the street with traffic,” Cobb said. “I tried to get out and pick him up there, but he kind of got skittish and ran off. He was running right in the middle of traffic. I kind of tailed off him a little bit, let him do his thing, I didn’t want to scare him into traffic more.
“I went down some neighborhood streets and into some back yards. You could tell he was a little scared, eventually he just kind of finally cowered down and let me pick him up.”
What a nice fellow. Dogs are great. As of right now, Cobb has had no luck finding the dog’s owner. [via Tampa Bay Times]
