Rutgers Is Hiring Business Consultant and Booster as Recruiting Coordinator

NCAA Football: Pinstripe Bowl-Rutgers vs Notre Dame

Rutgers is hiring a new recruiting coordinator, Jeff Towers per NJ.com. Towers has zero football experience. He’s a Rutgers booster, who also happens to run a business consulting firm.

Towers doesn’t appear to have any football experience but, according to LinkedIn, he is said to have managed “his own consulting agency assisting nonprofit organizations in strategic planning, board development, marketing, communications and fundraising.” The profile says he is principal of a New York nonprofit firm called Jeffrey Towers & Associates, which doesn’t have a known website, and lists his previous employers as the American Red Cross, UNICEF and Public Interest Data, Inc.

Really shocking the conference that produced “Legends” and “Leaders” divisions and plays for “Heroes,” “Heartland” and “Freedom” trophies was the first to have a consultant on a football staff. Can’t have enough brand synergy when trying to keep 16-year-old boys away from Meyer, Franklin and Harbaugh.

Towers is also a Rutgers booster. Thus, the very sort of person NCAA rules are designed to keep out of the recruiting process would now be on staff organizing Rutgers’ recruitment.

We would have gone for this guy.
